ORAL HISTORIES
Speaker - Nancy Thompson
Author and Oral Historian, Nancy Thompson, will share with us her latest book, "Turner Family History". She will guide us through the process of successfully recording an oral history and her process for creating a family tree.
We have enjoyed having Nancy on our program in the past and we are looking forward to seeing her and learning from her once again.

INTRODUCTION TO GENETIC GENEALOGY
Speaker/Member: Nancy Niles Wehner
Exhaustive searches of tradional and non-traditional records that our ancestors left behind and the application of sound analytical thought can resolve many questions of relationship encountered in genealogy. But, paper trails can run cold for a variety of reasons, or provide tantalizing but inadequate information to decisively solve a relationship question. In these cases, the biological record of our ancestry that is coded in our genes may provide the final bit of information needed to prove a relationship case. Nancy will take us through the basics of DNA structure and inheritance, the types of genetic testing that are available for genealogical purposes and what each one tells us, and guide us through a case study in the use of DNA testing.
Nancy Niles Wehner is a consulting pharmaceutical toxicologist whose real love is genealogy. She has been actively engaged in genealogical research for 25+ years. In addition to work on her own and her husband's family trees, she has done volunteer research for friends and organizations, volunteers at the Hayward Stake FHC, and is currently working on her genealogical certification.

'THE SEARCH FOR MY ABANDONED GRANDMOTHER
Speaker/Author: Mary Ames Mitchell
Mary's search through English graveyards, family records, library archives, and personal journals took six years. She will take us on this "genealogical mystery tour" in pusuit of her maternal grandmother, Eileen Maude Hopkins.
Mary Ames Mitchell is an accomplished author of several books. She has spoken at our meetings in the past and we anxiously look forward to her visit with us once again.

FUN, GAMES AND COOKIES TOO!
Time for our annual "Holiday Cookie Exchange" where each member brings a batch of their favorite cookies to share. Be sure to bring a container to take home samples of the goodies!
We would welcome hearing about your latest success - have you recently solved a "Brick-Wall" problem in your research?
We will also have some fun with "Family Gathering". A game that lends itself well to genealogy and generates some interesting tales.
Please come and join the fun. Guests are always welcome.

TRACING FEMALE ANCESTORS - Speaker, Janice Sellars
There is no doubt that one of the most perplexing problems genealogists face is tracing those elusive female ancestors. Janice Sellars will share many tips and ideas that can help us find those women!
Janice is a professional genealogist with many years experience. She has volunteered on the staff at the Oakland FHC for over eleven years. We have appreciated and learned from her previous programs at our meetings and we are looking forward to having her as our speaker once again.
