FAMILYSEARCH.ORG
Speaker:  Ralph Seversen

It's time once again for an update on what is new and how to navigate our way through FamilySearch.org's vast archives...and nobody does it better than Ralph Seversen.

We know this website can provide valuable clues and information that will answer questions and lead us to further understand and know our ancestors - but sometimes finding those clues or that specific information can be difficult.

We are hoping this presentation will help you better find your way through the website and discover some valuable information relating to the ancestors in your family tree.

WHEN SEARCH ENGINES DON'T WORK
Finding Online Sources That Are Not Digitally Indexed
Speaker:  Marge Bell

The records of the Family History Library in Salk Lake City are being digitized at an amazing rate.
This includes the millions of microfilms and microfiche previously available only in the SLC library or by mail order through your local FHC.  It also includes the thousands upon thousands of periodicals indexed in PERSI.

This presentation by lecture and demonstration will explain how to find and use these online records which cannot be found by doing a search for an individual at a subscription website.

It is delightful to have Marge Bell once again available to present this new class/program.  Ralph Seversen from the Oakland FHC was extremely impressed with Marge's program and I am sure you will be also.

FEBRUARY MEETING

Wednesday, February 10, 2016 - 10 a.m.

RESEARCHING MORTUARY IRECORDS
Speaker:  Sheila Wells

We all know how important mortuary records can be and the volume of information they can contain.

Harris Funeral Home has been in business in Berkeley for over sixty years and has, therefore, volumes of family data stored in those records.  They are not only in the mortuary business, but they make a point of keeping "genealogical" records on the families they have served over the years.  Wouldn't it be terrific if more mortuaries felt inclined to do the same?

You will be surprised to meet someone from a mortuary that is as interested in family genealogy as we are.  Sheila will explain how the staff at Harris Funeral Home traces the families n their files and tell us about the data bases they are creating.

Meetings are held at the Oakland Family History Library, 4766 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland

Guests are always welcome!  We would love to have you visit us!
JANUARY MEETING

The taxman found your ancestor - can you?  Tax records contain a surprising amount of information, they can help you find missing ancestors and fill in gaps in ancestor's lives.

We are fortunate to have two very experienced and professional researchers on this subject.  Karla and Madeline have over 30 years combined genealogical research experience as well as several years of legal research experience.

The program will cover poll tax, land tax, and personal property tax records and provide answers to the following:  Why tax records are important;  The benefits of tax records and what you can find in them;  Where to find tax records;  and, Tips for researching tax records.

This will be a great program to get you started on your genealogical research this New Year.
