ANNUAL COOKIE SHARE TIME
Hard to believe that the Christmas Holidays are almost here once again. So, folks, it is time to once again pleasantly surprise and delight us with your favorite cookie recipe to share with our members and the staff of the Family History Center.
We also hope you will share your genealogical problems, experiences, research brick walls or successes; or maybe an interesting story of your family members or ancestors.
We look forward to one of our favorite meetings of the year. Be sure to bring a container to take home samples of your selected goodies.

SEPTEMBER MEETING - Wednesday, September 9, 2015 - 10 a.m.
29 YEARS LOOKING FOR THE ANSWER
Speaker - Jeremy Frankel
Jeremy Frankel is a professional genealogist and has been researching his family for over 30 years.
He is president of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogical Society and a trustee for the Commission for the Preservation of Pioneer Jewish Cemeteries and Landmarks in the West...which owns and maintains seven Gold Rush Era cemeteries in the Sierra foothills. He and his partner own Frankel Fisch, Family Historians and in addition to traditional projects, they have worked on four TV programs.
Thirty years ago, Jeremy's grandfather looked up from the dinner table and asked him if he knew that his older brothers had been previously married..the grandfather's brother, not Jeremy's. This nonchalant question set Jeremy on a trail that took nearly thirty years to solve across two continents and led to an amazing "reunion" in April of this year.

JULY MEETING - Wednesday, July 8, 2015 - 10 a.m.
EASTERN EUROPEAN RESEARCH - Speaker: Gail Chaid
Upon inheriting a cardboard box that had belonged to her mother, containing records and letters dating back 100 years, Gail Chaid (pronounced Shade") began her quest to uncover the family history. Making the task more difficult, the letters were written in Cyrillic, native to many Slavic countries and still used today in Russia, Bulgaria and some other Slavic states.
Following all the recommended research techniques, attending classes and seminars, searching websites, etc., attempting to research her Bulgarian family proved most futile. Records in the United States were not her problem translating Cyrillic and researching records in Bulgaria WAS her problem. Gail had to change her strategy.
Although her research deals primarily with Bulgaria, Gail's strategy that broke through some brick walls might be useful to anyone researching their Eastern European ancestors.
GUESTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!
