GERMAN RESEARH - Speaker, Shirley Riemer

Shirley is a member of the Sacramento German Genealogical Society and editor of their publication, "Der Blumenbaum". She has written several books and this year will take her 41st trip to Germany.

We are honored to have her at our podium and look forward to learning what is new and available in the way of German research.

Speaker, Lisa Cooke

We are pleased to have Lisa Cooke at our podium once again. She will fill us in on the many resources available to the genealogist using the Google search engine, and how to get the utmost results while "Googling". Lisa's enthusiasm is contagious - we are looking forward to this meeting.

Patrick is lead genealogy docent at the Pleasanton Public Library and editor of Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society quarterly publication, "Roots Tracer". He has researched his own families and followed those records back to the Irish and German villages of his ancestors. He will help us understand how to attack those brick walls brick by brick, and challenge us to take a closer look at the broad range of resources available on the shelves of the Oakland FHC.

Bring descendant chart, family group sheets, pedigree charts and/or Ahnentafel of your current brick wall ancestor along with your list of resources searched.

FEBRUARY 10, 2010 MEETING

SANTA CLARA COUNTY HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Two members of SCCHGS will present a program outlining their society and informing us of the vast amount of reference material available at their library. If you are researching in Santa Clara County, CA you will certainly gain much knowledge by attending this meeting. Handouts will be available.

JANUARY 13. 2010 MEETING

ORAL HISTORIES - Speaker Nancy Thompson

Nancy is an Oakland native, an award-winning oral historian, filmmaker and writer. She earned a BA in sociology/economics from Mills College in Oakland and a JD from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. She is the author of "A Legacy of Courage, Pioneering Spirits". She has recorded her family history with the Story Corps Griot Project and the Museum of the African Diaspora Share Your Stories Project.

We look forward to hearing of her experiences in writing her book and revealing information and pointers on how to successfully conduct oral histories. You'll enjoy her talk and her enthusiasm!
